JOE BYRNE
BUILT HOUSES• ACCIDENTAL SOFTWARE GUY

WE DIDN'T SET OUT TO BECOME JOBTREAD SPECIALISTS.
WE SET OUT TO RUN A BETTER BUILDING COMPANY.

It started with a problem.
Like most builders, we were running our residential construction business on a combination of spreadsheets, gut feel, and hoping the numbers worked out at the end of the job.

We knew there had to be a better way. So we went looking for it.

JobTread kept coming up as the answer. We bought it, got access, and quickly realised that buying the software and actually getting it working for a NZ residential construction business were two very different things.

WE DID THE HARD YARDS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO

The out-of-the-box version of JobTread is built for a global market. The cost catalogues didn't reflect how we price work here. The templates didn't match how NZ and Australian construction contracts actually work. The workflows needed rebuilding from the ground up before they made sense for our jobs.

Most businesses would have given up. We kept going.

Luckily, Joe isn't just a builder. He came into the construction industry with a background in IT — which meant he could see both sides of the problem. He understood how the software was built and why it worked the way it did. He also understood exactly what a residential construction business in New Zealand actually needs from a job management system.

That combination turned out to be the difference.

WHAT WE BUILT

Over time we built out everything JobTread needed to genuinely perform for NZ and AUS construction businesses:

Full cost catalogues built around local labour rates, materials, and subcontractor pricing

• Recipe and assembly structures so estimating is fast, consistent, and accurate

• Quote and variation templates that reflect how construction contracts actually work here

• Xero integration configured properly,  not just connected, but genuinely working

• Workflows built around real residential construction jobs, not generic project management theory

The result was a system that finally gave us back something builders rarely have - time. Fewer late nights chasing numbers. Less month-end chaos. A clear picture of every job, every week.

THEN OTHER BUILDERS STARTED ASKING QUESTIONS

Once word got around that we'd cracked it, other builders started calling. Could we help them set it up? Could we show them what we'd built?

Every time we helped someone, we got better at it. We refined the process. We learnt what worked across different business sizes and build types. We became, without really planning it, the people other NZ and AUS builders turn to when they want JobTread set up properly.

Every person at Build Traction learned JobTread the same way, inside our own construction business, on live jobs, with real money on the line.

JOE.  Founder & Builder. Pulled JobTread apart until it worked. IT background, trade background, and the person you'll deal with directly.

PAUL.  Quantity Surveyor. Brings a QS lens to every implementation. Cost structures, catalogues, and margin analysis done properly.

LISA.  Designer. Makes sure JobTread works as well as it looks. Workflows, templates, and client-facing documents built to actually get used.

WHO ARE WE?

Build Traction Team

WHY IT MATTERS THAT WE'RE STILL BUILDERS

We still run our residential construction business. That means when we configure JobTread for your business, we're doing it with current, real-world knowledge of what a construction job actually looks like in 2026.

We're not working from memory or theory. We're working from last week.

No pitch. No pressure. We'll tell you honestly if we're the right fit.

MOST SOFTWARE PEOPLE HAVE NEVER BEEN ON THE TOOLS. WE HAVE. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.
